Turku Castle
Turku Castle is a more than 700 year old historical monument. The mighty Turku Castle has guarded by the River Aura since 1280`s. The castle`s high gray stone walls hide many unique moments from history. During its history, the castle has been defended, the command holders have changed, and during Duke Juhana’s time, the castle became a scene of court life
Turku Cathedral
Turku Cathedral is Finland’s National Sanctuary. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Finland’s first bishop, St Henry, the church was consecrated in 1300. The Turku Cathedral is considered to be Finland’s most valuable historical monument. Housed in the church’s south gallery, the Cathedral Museum takes you on a journey through history from the early 1300’s.
Kakolanmäki Hill
Since 1853 the country’s worst villains and murderers have been locked inside the bleak walls of Kakola. The futures of thousands of men have been lost behind the iron doors and granite stone walls. The Kakolanmäki Hill Museum will present these stories to the visitors. The summertime Cafe Kakola operates in the park courtyard from the house of the old prison warden, built in 1879.
Turun taiteiden yö | The Night of the Arts Festival in Turku
In 2024, the Night of the Arts Festival will be held on 15 August. The Night of the Arts is a multifaceted event created by various actors mainly within the field of arts and culture as well as by the audience. The event takes place both indoors and in the streets, spreading out on the banks of river Aura and in the city centre. Since 2017, the event has been coordinated by the Musicians of the King’s Road baroque orchestra and choir.
